Understanding Self Harm
ON-LINE REGISTRATION IS NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR THIS WORKSHOP!
Just as suicide is veiled with shame and secrecy in our society, there is another silent issue that hides in the sorrow of those around us. Deliberate self-harm is an issue that needs to be demystified in order for caregivers and professionals to deal with its impact and possible consequences. We will explore the links and differences between self-harm and suicide, discuss harm reduction strategies, and share practical resources for those at risk for self-harm.
This workshop is aimed at professionals who work with youth or others who may engage in self-harming behaviors, and at parents/caregivers of youth or young adults who may be at risk.
Upon completion of the Understanding Self-Harm workshop, participants will:
- Be able to define self-harm and the underlying reasons for it
- Acquire basic knowledge on how to support a person who is at risk
- Be aware of available community resources
