Debriefing Stressful Situations
When a stressful situation occurs, knowing what to do next can sometimes be a challenge. Learn how to help others express the effects of stressful situations while exploring options for self-care.The material covered in this workshop can be applied to any distressing situation involving an individual or group.
This course is ideal for individuals working or supervising in a front-line setting.
Upon completion of the Debriefing Stressful Situations workshop, participants will:
- Feel more confident addressing stressful situations after they have occurred
- Understand how to apply basic debriefing models to help individuals or groups discuss stressful events
- Understand the limits and boundaries of debriefing
- Be aware of resources in the community to help deal with stressful situations
Topics covered include:
- Distinguishing debriefing from other modes of communicating
- Understanding what situations debriefing can be applied to
- Learning when and how to debrief using communication techniques
- Recognizing clues of fatigue and burnout in others
- Boundaries and personal limits of the helper
